ESG – Rainwater Harvesting (RWH) Blueprint

PIP prioritises the conservation and management of water resources, to ensure compliance with its ESG objectives. While water consumption is increasing in Malaysia by 7.6 liters per capita/ annum, water reserves are decreasing by 5.8 liters per capita/ annum. By 2025 Malaysia is expected to see water shortages. Bearing in mind that Perlis water resources are stretched already, PIP has developed a RWH policy that will capture all the roof water from Warehouses and other structures that will yield relatively clean water for use.

Water is a limited resource for Perlis state. Perlis receives 2000 mm (78 inches) of rain annually which for the PIP is a potential resource that it can capture to mitigate flooding and to provide an alternative to municipal water. In 2020 Perlis the domestic per capita liter water consumption rate per day (LCD) was 244 and it increased to 251 liters (55 gallons/day) by 2021, which is relatively high, compared with the UN benchmark of daily water requirement at 165 liters per person/ day. In PIP Phase 1, warehousing of 100,000 sq ft should be able to supply clean water around 2.95 million liters per annum.
