Sale & Purchase Agreement Signing Ceremony Between KALMAR, MACH 1 & MUTIARA PERLIS

MUTIARA PERLIS, MACH 1 & KALMAR FORM STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP TO TRANSFORM PERLIS INLAND PORT OPERATIONS with RM17 MILLION EQUIPMENT DEAL

KUALA LUMPUR, 21 May 2025 – Mutiara Perlis is investing RM17 million in 15 new Kalmar container handling machines through Mach 1 Group to enhance operations at Perlis Inland Port (PIP). This partnership will help position PIP as a modern logistics hub for Malaysia and Southeast Asia.

At a signing ceremony held at the Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur, Mutiara Perlis formalized this strategic collaboration to strengthen PIP’s cargo handling capacity. The newly acquired equipment—six Reach Stackers, three Empty Container Handlers, and six Terminal Tractors—will improve efficiency and multimodal cargo movement.

“This investment is about more than equipment. It’s about shaping the future of Malaysia’s logistics and transforming Perlis into a key trade player,” said Wan Ahmad Zaheed Wan Mohamad, Group Managing Director & CEO of Mutiara Perlis.

PIP’s strategic location within the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) and its proximity to Thailand make it a critical trade link. The inland terminal connects Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, and China through the Pan-Asia Railway Network, strengthening regional logistics infrastructure.

Mach 1, Malaysia’s authorized Kalmar dealer since 2023, led the procurement process, ensuring PIP receives high-quality container handling technology. The equipment was officially acquired from Kalmar in 2024. “This partnership is built on long-term support, including 24/7 technical assistance, fleet analytics, and a spare parts hub in Singapore, keeping PIP at world-class standards,” said Pan Chee Seng, CEO of Mach 1 Group.

Kalmar’s cutting-edge solutions will help PIP grow and adopt sustainable logistics innovations. “This collaboration will support PIP’s expansion and establish it as a top-tier inland port,” said Teo Yew Boon, Vice President of Kalmar Asia-Middle East & Africa (AMEA).

With Phase 1 of PIP set for completion in July 2025, the inland terminal will handle 300,000 TEUs annually, more than doubling the current 130,000 TEU capacity at Padang Besar Container Terminal. The project is also expected to create over 500 new jobs, boost trade flows, ease congestion at coastal ports, and solidify Perlis’ role in the Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER).

By combining advanced technology with strong partnerships, Mutiara Perlis is setting new standards for inland port operations, creating a more connected, efficient, and sustainable logistics ecosystem for Malaysia and the region.
